2023 FIH Men's Hockey World Cup: India To Host 2023 Men's FIH Hockey World Cup

India has also been handed over the hosting of the Hockey World Cup to be held in 2023 after the successful event of the Hockey World Cup last year.

The announcement was made after the FIH (International Hockey Federation) Executive Board meeting held in Losane, Switzerland on Friday. Three countries, including India, had submitted their claim for hosting 2022-23. The Men's Hockey World Cup will be played in 2023 from 13 to 29 January. This will be the fourth time since 1971 when India will host the Hockey World Cup.

The meeting also decided that Spain and the Netherlands would co-host the FIH Women's Hockey World Cup to be held in 2022. The Women's World Cup will take place from 1 to 17 July 2022. The announcement will be made by host countries about which cities the matches will be played during the tournament.

India will host for the fourth time:


India will host this tournament for the fourth time. Earlier, he hosted the tournament in Mumbai in 1982, New Delhi in 2010 and Bhubaneswar in 2018. The special thing is that 75 years of India's independence will be completed in the year 2023, in such a situation the hosting of Hockey World Cup will be much better for him. India last won this title in 1975. Apart from India, Holland has hosted the Men's Hockey World Cup three times. India has become the World Cup champion only once. He won the title by defeating Pakistan in the final of the tournament played in 1975. Earlier in 1973, he was the runner-up.

International Hockey Federation CEO Thierry Vail issued an official statement saying, "The FIH had received several excellent bids to host these prestigious events. So it was very difficult to decide on one. Since the federation's primary goal is to spread the game around the world, which definitely requires investment. For this reason, the ability of every bid to generate income was also seen while taking the decision.


Hockey India (HI) President Mohammad Mushtaq Ahmed expressed happiness over the achievement saying, 'We are very happy to host the Men's Hockey World Cup 2023. When we took part in the bidding process, we wanted to celebrate 75 years of our country's independence in a more special way. 

We last won the World Cup in 1975. In such a situation, we will be able to celebrate this special celebration of this game once again on domestic ground. He also said, 'We had successfully hosted the 2018 World Cup and are confident that once again we will be able to repeat this success. The top countries of the world will come to play with us once again and with previous experience we will try to organize a better event.

Belgium won the last World Cup:


All the matches were played in Odisha during the tournament held in India last year. In the final, Belgium defeated the Netherlands 3–2 in the penalty shootout. At that time the Indian team was in the sixth position.
