The European Football Association announced this. The award will be announced on August 29 during the Champions League group stage match in Monaco.
Lionel Messi, who won the Spanish league title with Spain’s Barcelona club (FC Barcelona), was the highest goalscorer in the Champions League last season. Messi had scored 12 goals.

Ronaldo (Cristiano Ronaldo) won the title of top scorer in the first edition of the UEFA Nations League Finals. This tournament was done by Portugal in its own name. Apart from this, Ronaldo also gave Serie-A title to Italy’s club Juventus last season.
Van Dijk has been a strong link to his club Liverpool’s defense. His team finished second in the Premier League and was the winner of the Champions League.
Croatia’s captain Luka Modric won the award last year. His team lost in the final of the World Cup against France.
Apart from these, Alison Baker of Liverpool, Sadio Mane of Liverpool, Mohammad Salah, Eden Hazard of Real Madrid, Mathis de Ligat of Juventus, Frankie de Jong of Barcelona and Rahim Starling of Manchester are also in the race.
Lucy Bronze of England, Ada Hegerberg of Norway and Emendin Henry of France were shortlisted for the Women’s Player of the Year. The trio plays for Lyon’s club.
